Inspired by the studio I take hip-hop classes!

Physalia: Jellyfish Princess

Had some extra time today during lunch and so I started fleshing out a concept that's been floating in my head for the past day or so. This is Physalia, a young Jellyfish princess who is going through a typical polyp life cycle. However, as with all coming of age stories, the transition isn't what she expected as she finds herself swept out to sea. I'm hoping to have time in the coming weeks to go in and explore some color (and round off my homage to Mucha!)

Memoirs mood art

Starting to really place the short film I'm working on into a living, breathing world.
Here's an environment for one of our early shots.

All Of The Lights

I've started taking hip-hop classes with some friends and a couple weeks ago our instructor, Chopper, who is heli-cool (sorry.) taught a really sweet routine to "All of the Lights." I promised them I'd storyboard it so we wouldn't forget it and this is what I came up with. It's pretty quick, but I think it's kind of cool to see all the moves laid out like a poster and I thought i would share it!

After Work Sketches

Last night I watched Kung Fu Panda again and I've got to say, the character designs by Nico Marlet are incredible. As such, for my after work sketch session I did a few doodles inspired by his absolutely amazing style. I'm so excited to see what's to come in Kung Fu Panda 2!

The Death of a Snail

Also, here's an enchanted forest I drew a little while back!

Pretty pretty pirates!

Another art night with my college buddies. Tonight's theme was "Pretty Pretty Pirates" and as you can see, I couldn't decide which way to approach it so I took two shots. I think I like the gruff pirate with bows the most!

Also, a little extra piece from the night! Can't go wrong with a sub aqua pachyderm!

Deep Blues

I went out Blues dancing last night and let me tell you, it is amazing. For those of you who have never heard of it (like myself until last tuesday), YouTube it. It's like anything goes improve to slow, sexy music.

That said, I decided to try drawing something inspired by my night getting down. I also wanted to try exploring colored pencils more, however, the ones I have are not a set, but a random assortment of misc. colors that I happened to pick up on Amazon. Quite a fun exercise!

Here is the result, as well as a picture of the pencils I had to work with!

Figure drawing

So Disney is absolutely amazing in that they offer figure drawing classes to their employees for free! I started going a couple weeks ago and must say that there's nothing really like drawing from life (for one, the models don't get mad at you when you stare at them!).

Here are a few drawings from these past sessions.

Also, while enjoying some amazing ukulele videos I rediscovered my love for the legendary jazz pianist, Oscar Peterson. This has got to be my favorite song of all time.
